SEAR started out as Daniel Muhr’s solo project, driven by the urge to explore the energy and power of mixing electronic elements with the fundamentals of rock music. This resulted in the first single ‘Tailspin’ released in 2020, followed by the full length album ‘Mirror·Malice·Self’ released in early 2025. The overall positive reactions to the release sparked a wish in Daniel to develop this project into a full-fledged audio-visual live act, something that would support the important message of getting through depression and dark periods in life.
“I do believe that we all [as humans] have periods of self doubt, extreme self awareness and thoughts of giving up, but I also believe that talking about it and brining this subject on par with other aspects of life is the true key to get through these emotions” says Daniel in a 2023 interview with Electrophobia fanzine.
Daniel’s love for music started out when he discovered ‘Kill em’ all’ by Metallica when he was eleven years old. “I remember feeling this excitement, the thrill of the power and energy in their music. I wanted to be a part of that!”
Being a part of the local scene, where he played in many smaller bands in his hometown of Örebro, Sweden, he eventually ended up studying music and music production at university.
Once finished, he opened up a Mastering studio in Gothenburg, Sweden, where he worked with several bands and their releases, but he eventually grew tired of spending too much time and effort on other peoples dreams. “I had to get out, I really felt I was about to explode if I couldn’t focus on my own expressions through music, it’s like my own version of therapy” ha says.
“The birth of ‘Mirror·Malice·Self’ marked an important milestone for us as a band, specially since it is a great way to get people to talk to us about this important subject”.
